Mexicali Receives “Sol del Norte” Solar Roof Program

The Mexican Secretariat of Energy has launched the “Sol del Norte” program in Mexicali, Baja California. This initiative aims to install 5,500 photovoltaic panels on vulnerable families’ rooftops with an investment of 200 million pesos.

Objective

  • Utilize solar energy to produce electricity, reducing light bills by up to 70% in high-temperature areas.

Benefits for Families

Residents will enjoy:

  • Automatic savings on electricity bills
  • Sustainable cooling options during extreme heat

Program Expansion

During this administration, the goal is to install 150,000 solar panels across high-temperature municipalities nationwide.

Environmental Impact

The program helps reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 4,864 tons annually, equivalent to removing over a thousand cars from the roads, according to the Energy Secretariat.
