Pilot Union Rejects Company’s Offer
In a near-unanimous vote, 98.8% of Sky Airline Chile pilots from a total of 257 professionals rejected the company’s final offer and approved a strike.
Reasons for Dispute
The pilots’ union stated, “We must defend the collective contract project drafted by workers, aiming to restore pre-pandemic working conditions, bridge industry gaps, balance work and family life, and retain essential talents for operational safety.”
Company’s Offer Criticized
According to the union, “Despite the industry’s strong expansion, the company’s favorable results, and optimistic projections by top executives, Sky’s latest offer doesn’t recover pre-pandemic working conditions but instead worsens them by minimizing established rights in the current collective agreement.”
Negotiations and Mediation Initiated
Before initiating the strike, pilots started a mediation and negotiation process—the first formal negotiation for this company in nearly a decade. They expressed hope that dialogue would bring parties closer together.
Company’s Response
Sky Airline communicated that the collective bargaining process is ongoing, and they will proceed to mandatory mediation with the Labor Directorate starting April 1st. The company assured that operations continue normally during this period, maintaining high service and safety standards.
