Trump Advances: Reciprocal Tariffs to Affect “10 or 15 Countries”

Donald Trump stated on Sunday that the tariffs he intends to impose in the coming days will affect not only those with significant trade imbalances with the United States, but all countries.

Trump announced that he will begin applying a series of tariffs on April 2nd, which he calls ‘Liberation Day’.

“We could start with all countries, and see what happens,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. When asked which ones would be affected, he said, “Maybe 15 countries, or maybe 10 or 15, there’s no limit.”

Previously, it was expected that the new round of 15% tariffs would target countries with the largest trade imbalances with the United States, a group referred to as ‘The Dirty Fifteen’ by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“This is a more generous deal than what we received from our trading partners,” Trump said.

“We were cheated like no country has ever been cheated, and we’re going to be much more generous than they were with us,” Trump affirmed.

The U.S. president has already imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports and additional duties on Chinese imports. Tariffs on imported automobiles will take effect on April 3rd, according to reports by Peter Navarro, Trump’s main trade advisor.

Navarro estimates that these car tariffs could generate $100 billion annually.
