Eyal Zamir, Israel’s Chief of General Staff, has ordered a thorough investigation into the shooting by Israeli soldiers at ambulances in southern Gaza on March 23, according to an army statement released Monday.
The preliminary probe has revealed that troops opened fire due to perceived threats, the military said after completing its initial investigation into the incident where 15 humanitarian workers were fatally shot on March 23.

The preliminary investigation concluded that the soldiers fired due to perceived threats, according to the military statement. All accusations related to the incident will be examined during the comprehensive investigation and presented in detail for deciding how to handle this event.
The Palestinian Red Crescent claimed earlier that the 15 humanitarian workers killed in Gaza on March 23 were shot “with intent to kill” by Israeli forces.
Among those who died, eight were employees of the Palestinian Red Crescent, six were members of Gaza’s Civil Defense, and one worked for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), according to the UN and the Red Crescent.
