Sectur Leads Promotion of the Mayan World

Under President Claudia Sheinbaum’s instructions, Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR) will spearhead the promotion of the Mayan World. During the inauguration of the Descubre el Mundo Maya exhibition at Punto México, SECTUR’s Secretary Josefina Rodríguez emphasized collaborative efforts that will also be reflected in the upcoming Tianguis Turístico, scheduled for later this month in Baja California.

Unified Promotion Efforts

SECTUR, along with tourism-affiliated companies under the Secretariat of Defense (Tren Maya, Mexicana de Aviación, hotels, and parks), is preparing to align promotion strategies and efficiently utilize allocated budgetary resources. The department led by Josefina Rodríguez will oversee these efforts.

Mayan World Platform Development

Additionally, a platform for commercializing and promoting Mayan World-related tourism products (including community experiences) is under development by the Agency of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications. This initiative will further enhance visibility of these offerings.

Collaborative Approach

Rodríguez highlighted that companies affiliated with Defense are working together, coordinating their resources under SECTUR’s leadership as per President Claudia Sheinbaum’s directive. This approach aims to optimize efforts and avoid unnecessary expenditure.

Tren Maya Milestones

Óscar David Lozano Águila, director general of Tren Maya, announced reaching one million passengers, a significant milestone celebrated appropriately. This success underscores the growing popularity of the project.

The Descubre el Mundo Maya exhibition, featuring Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, and Yucatán, aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage and tourism potential of the Mayan World. This display will also set the stage for the upcoming Tianguis Turístico in Baja California.

Enhancing Tourism Products

Rodríguez explained that the focus is on creating a competitive, high-quality tourism product by linking all aspects of the Mayan World. This includes professional development, training, or certification for military company employees and an upgrade from four to five stars for Mayan World hotels.

Infrastructure Promotion

The director general of Grupo Aeroportuario, Ferroviario, de Servicios Auxiliares y Conexos, Olmeca-Maya-Mexica (GAFSACOMM), expressed enthusiasm for collaborative efforts to promote new tourism infrastructure. This includes contributions to national circulation supplements.

Exhibition Highlights

The ongoing exhibition at Punto México aims to present the Mayan World as a future tourism destination, highlighting its unique cultural expressions such as gastronomy, dances, and archaeological sites. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging the region’s rich heritage for sustainable development.
