The Mexican National Electoral Institute (INE) has announced new changes for the upcoming 2024-2025 Extraordinary Election Process of the Federal Judiciary Power (PEEPJF). These innovations aim to enhance voting efficiency and accessibility.
Streamlined Voting Process
- Voters will pass through the Mesa Directiva de Casilla Seccional only once, receiving their ballots, having their voter credentials marked, finger stained with indelible ink, and directed to the voting space all at once.
Casillas Seccionales Enhancements
- To facilitate voting, Casillas Seccionales will offer a minimum of 8 and up to 15 voting spaces, including special booths and voting cages.
Casillas Especiales Improvements
- Especial Casillas will feature between 16 and up to 20 voting spaces, utilizing both booths and screens, along with the placement of a single unique ballot box.
Unified Ballot Box
In both Casillas Seccionales and Especiales, voters will deposit their ballots into a single, unified ballot box. This means no distinction between federal or local elections, or different types of offices.
- The number of unique ballot boxes will depend on the number of expected voters. For over 1,000 to up to 2,250 voters, two unified ballot boxes will be used.
Expanded Mesa Directiva de Casilla
The new model anticipates a broader participation of citizens in the Casilla Seccional’s Mesa Directiva, increasing the number of voting officials.
- 1,000 voters: Five members – one president, two secretaries, and two scrutineers, plus three substitutes.
- 1,000 to 2,250 voters: Six or seven members – one president, two secretaries, three scrutineers, and up to three substitutes, totaling ten officials.
No Political Party Representatives
A notable difference in these 2025 judicial elections is the absence of political party representatives. This change aligns with recent reforms to the Federal Judiciary Power, which prohibits political parties from participating in related activities, activities, and sessions.
