Canacar Denies Involvement in Ramos Arizpe Protests and Bloqueos

The National Chamber of Freight Transport by Road (Canacar) denied on Thursday night that its members will participate in protests and blockades scheduled for April 14, 2023, in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, due to alleged extortions.

The organization issued a press release stating that a fake document circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, titled “To all truck drivers in the country,” is not authentic. This document suggests that protests, including highway blockades and airport disruptions, are due to extortions, abuses, and even kidnappings by Ramos Arizpe municipal police, traffic, and road safety officials.

The spurious document bears the signature of Juan Manuel Ramos Cantú, Canacar’s delegate in Saltillo, along with the chamber’s logo and office address in Mexico City.

Canacar, led by Miguel Ángel Martínez Millán, clarified:

  • The signature of Juan Manuel Ramos Cantú on the document has been forged and used for purposes unrelated to Canacar and its person.
  • An investigation will be conducted regarding this matter.

They also highlighted their role as a part of Mexico’s business sector:

“It is worth noting that Canacar serves as the State’s consultative body for addressing and resolving issues faced by the transportation sector. As an institution, it operates on dialogue and never confrontation. We reiterate to all truck drivers across the country: any information released by this Chamber will be communicated through its official channels: website, social media, press conferences, or press releases.”
