Puebla’s Franchise Sector Calls for Extended Transportation Hours and Increased Night Security

Franchises in Puebla urge authorities to extend transportation routes’ hours and enhance security at night.

Roberto Esquivel Ruiseco, Vice President of the Mexican Franchise Network, stated that some businesses are closing at 10 PM, while certain transportation routes end half an hour earlier or fail to complete their routes. This situation affects employees who must pay more to reach their destinations by transferring buses.

Employees working late hours are turning to electric scooters to save on transportation costs. However, this poses risks due to insecurity during nighttime rides.

“Our employees live in the outskirts and, to avoid transportation expenses, they’re buying scooters. Yet, this can be dangerous as drivers of other vehicles may not respect traffic rules at night,” explained Esquivel Ruiseco.

Two years ago, franchises resumed regular closing hours after shortening them by one hour post-pandemic. Despite this, transportation authorities haven’t improved services as routes still don’t follow established schedules.

Unresolved Grievances

Franchise leaders have requested state government intervention to mandate service enhancements or penalties for non-compliance. They emphasize the need for efficient public transportation to protect employees from insecurity.

The franchise sector, generating 8,000 direct jobs across 1,200 business units, hopes these measures will ensure safer travel conditions for their workforce.
